Bioenergy research. Technician holding a sample of pulverised bagasse (dry pulp) derived from sweet sorghum plants after sugar juice extraction. The dry pulp has a good calorific value and may be burnt directly in power stations to produce electricity with an high conversion efficiency. Other benefits include no sulphur oxide emission and a total zero impact of carbon dioxide emitted into the atmosphere. The bagasse may also be converted using chemical processes into environmentally friendly biofuels such as gas and oil with a very low content of sulphur and nitrogen oxides.
