Wood furnace heating. Operator checking the control unit of a wood burning furnace. This district heating system at Hexgrave Hall, Nottinghamshire, is fuelled by short rotation coppiced willow. It heats water which is used to heat the hall and surrounding buildings. The bucket at the base of the unit (lower centre) contains fuel. The volume of this bucket is all that is needed for several days because the boiler is so efficient. This is an example of an environmentally friendly heating system. Photographed in the UK.
