Ethanol biofuel factory. This factory ferments maize plants (Zea mays) to produce ethanol for use as a biofuel. Ethanol is used in motor vehicles as an alternative to fuel obtained from oil deposits. If obtained from renewable sources with minimal environmental impact, biofuels can cause less damage than oil products. This is the Big River Resources factory in West Burlington, Iowa, USA. It started producing ethanol in 2004.
