The Hoover Dam, located on the Colorado River below the Grand Canyon, USA. Completed in 1936, the structure is 1,244 feet long and 726 feet high, making it the highest dam in the USA. The hydro-electric power station below the dam has an electrical power generating capacity of 1 million kilowatts (kW) from its 18 generators. The reservoir stores 30 million acre-feet of water in Lake Mead which extends 115 miles up the river.
