Hydroelectric power. The machine hall of a large hydroelectric power station. Hydroelectricity is one of the major forms of renewable energy. It uses the flow of water through turbines to drive generators. The water is held back by a dam to form a large reservoir, ensuring that the flow through the turbines is at high pressure. Apart from the total lack of emissions during operation, the main advantage of hydroelectric power is its almost instant availability. Photographed at Volgograd, Russia.
