Hydroelectric power station control room. Operations manger at the control desk of a hydroelectric power station. An array of control panels, monitors and dials are used to track and control the flow of water through the turbines. Hydroelectric power stations use water, stored behind a dam on a river, to generate electricity. The water is allowed to flow from the dam to the river below, passing through turbines on the way. The kinetic energy of the falling water is converted by the turbines to electrical energy. This is the Nizhnekamsk hydroelectric power station, in the Republic of Tatarstan, Russia. Photographed in 2007.
