Wind power: a field of windmills at an electricity generating 'wind farm'. Wind energy is used increasingly to generate electricity. It creates no noxious emissions, and is relatively cheap to exploit. It does, however, use large expanses of land (usually mountain areas) and creates a lot of noise. It is used as an adjunct to conventional generating capacity, reducing the demand on power stations burning 'fossil fuels'. Photographed near Mojave in California.
