Caption

A solar collector panel covered with square photovoltaic or solar cells. Because square solar cells use multi-crystal silicon they are less efficient than circular cells cut from an ingot of single-crystalline silicon. Circular cells however, can cover only 70% of the area of a solar panel, whereas square cells can cover it completely. Solar cells absorb radiant energy from the sun and convert it into electrical energy.
