Caption

An array of photovoltaic cells at a solar power station in the USA. Each of the towers seen here carries thousands of individual photovoltaic cells linked to one another. Computers are used to steer the towers to keep them pointing toward the Sun at all times. The tower in the foreground has been parked for maintenance. Large solar power stations may generate up to 1 MW (million watts) of electricity, enough for a small town's needs. At night, the computer turns the arrays to face the direction of the next sunrise.
