Solar power. Wide-angle view of some of the mirrors of a solar power station. These mirrors reflect sunlight to the top of the tower seen at centre. There, the energy of the light is converted into electricity by a thermoelectric generator. This power station, in Crimea, is operational for over 300 days each year. Its output is used as an adjunct to conventionally- generated power, thus reducing the demand on fossil fuel and nuclear plants.
