Solar powered car during a road race in Australia. The World Solar Challenge is an annual race in which solar powered cars travel from Darwin in northern Australia to Adelaide in South Australia, a distance of over 3000 kilometres. Solar energy uses light from the Sun to produce electricity. It is an environmentally-friendly energy as it does not produce toxic waste products and does not use up limited resources for fuel.
