Tenesol's solar-powered building. Tenesol is a French company that manufactures solar panels, and this building is the company office in La Tour de Salvagny, France. The solar panels (dark blue rectangles), which were installed in 1999, generate electricity that powers electrical devices in the building, and provides power for heating. Solar panels are collections of photovoltaic cells, which use a light-absorbing material to generate electricity from sunlight. The material used here is silicon. Electricity from solar power is a clean form of energy when compared to the electricity that is distributed from coal-fired power stations.
