Operation Cue atom bomb test. Mannequins after a thermal radiation atom bomb test on 5th May 1955, at the Nevada Test Site, USA. The mannequins were around 2.1 kilometres from the atom bomb when it was detonated. The heat from an an atomic explosion can cause severe and fatal burns, even at large distances. Operation Cue, supervised by the Federal Civil Defense Administration, included experiments like these, to test the effect of an atom bomb on civilian areas. The atomic explosion itself, named Apple-2, was the 13th test in the Operation Teapot series.
