Fallout shelter supplies at an exhibit in the USA during the Cold War. In the late 1950s and early 1960s, the Cold War between the USA and the USSR was reaching its peak. This is a US Department of Defense exhibit about public fallout shelters. In the event of a nuclear strike by the Soviet Union, survivors would follow signs to the shelters and remain there until radiation had fallen to safe levels. The shelters contained a two-week supply of food and water, and medical, sanitary and radiation monitoring equipment, some of which is shown here.
