Dungeness B nuclear power station. View of Dungeness B nuclear power station in Lydd, Kent, England. Dungeness has two pairs of gas-cooled reactors (GCR), Dungeness A1 and A2 (not seen), and Dungeness B1 and B2. This latter pair started to produce electricity in 1985, each having a maximum output of 555 megawatts of electricity. The power station as a whole can produce 1550 megawatts. Nuclear power stations obtain energy from the fission (splitting) of the large nuclei of atoms like uranium in controlled chain reactions.
