Nuclear power station construction. Worker using a welding tool underneath the cover of a nuclear reactor. The holes in the cover are where control rods will be lowered into and withdrawn from the reactor. The control rods consist of a moderator material that absorbs neutrons and allows control of the fission reaction in the reactor core. The fission reaction heats water in the reactor. The heat in this water is then transferred in several stages to turbines that generate electricity. Photographed at the Framatome ANP facility at Chalon/Saint Marcel, France.
