Nuclear power station turbine room. This is the engine section of the turbine room. The turbine room is where steam is used to drive turbines to produce electricity. The steam in turn is formed when the energy released by the nuclear reaction is used to boil water. This turbine room is part of the Kalinin nuclear power station, near the city of Udomlya, in the Kalinin region of Russia. It was built in 1977, started operating in 1985, and has three reactors generating 3000 megawatts of power each. Photographed in 2003.
