Waste nuclear fuel containers. Workers preparing to examine nuclear waste containers (large cylinders) at a mining site. The containers will be used to tranport waste nuclear fuel from nuclear power stations to reprocessing sites. Waste nuclear fuel is a highly radioactive mix of nuclear fission products and unused nuclear fuel, and is transported in heavily-shielded lead-lined containers. Photographed in 2002, in Zheleznogorsk, in the Krasnoiarsk region of Russia.
