Turbine hall at a landfill gas power station. This power station is gas-fired, burning gas to heat water to produce steam to drive its electricity- generating turbines. The gas is obtained from landfill sites. Landfill sites generate gases (such as methane) by the decomposition of organic household waste. Such gases can be hazardous if allowed to accumulate to the point where a large explosion can occur. This power station is in Stone, Kent, England.
