Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), USA. The Mobile Robot laboratory at MIT has produced several such robots during nanotechnology and micromechanics research. All of them use 'artificial stupidity' to perform very simple tasks. Genghis, for instance, follows rudimentary logic rules to chase any moving object which it detects in its vicinity. To this end it is equipped with infrared sensors and pressure- sensitive metal whiskers. Future robot insects may be used in industry to make checks and on-the-spot repairs inside otherwise inaccessible machinery.
