Terrain model made by the ADAM autonomous rover. Computer image of the terrain model being made by the ADAM robot as it crosses a simulated Earth or planetary landscape. The robot is shown in red and yellow. Blue areas depict ground features detected and modelled by the robot, the magenta areas those not yet detected. ADAM constructs its terrain model from scanning laser rangefinder data, and uses complex computer algorithms to plan the best way toward its objective. Later versions will utilise stereo video data in the terrain model. ADAM was built by Matra Marconi Space and FRAMATOME on a Russian Mars rover chassis.
