Evolving robots. Group of evolving Tupperbot robots. These infrared light-sensing robots are showing embodied evolution, evolution within a group of robots. While their human makers want them to move to the light (far left), the robots have not been given these instructions and must evolve the correct behaviour. Behavioural mutations may aid them in this. If a robot manages to reach the light twice in succession it is deemed to be evolved and may provide guidance to the other seven robots. Robots that ignore this help are regarded as unfit and eliminated. Photo taken at Brandeis University, Massachusetts, USA.
