Staffetta robot. Time exposure image of movement by the Staffetta robot, a courier robot that has been developed at the University of Genoa, Italy, and is being produced by the Genova Robot company. It uses ETHNOS software, runs on electric motors, navigates by communicating with laser transponders (Distributed Local Positioning System - DLPS; with Echelon transponders) and has an onboard computer. It can navigate round obstacles and be controlled remotely. Touch and voice control is being developed. It can reach speeds of up to 1 metre per second. It has been specially designed for safe use in public areas. Genova Robots was established in 2000.
