Android robot. Cog, an android robot developed as part of artificial intelligence (AI) research, in front of computer monitor screens. Cog, short for cognitive, can co-ordinate its hearing and visual systems to pinpoint a noise source. The visual system can guide movements of the hand. Cog's hand (not seen) has a touch-sensitive surface which allows the robot to classify objects that it is holding, adjusting its grip accordingly. Cog is used to study how humans learn through interactions with other people. From cog, which is approximately human-sized, a baby-sized robot called Kismet was developed. Cog was developed at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, USA.
