WABOT-1 robot, the first bipedal, walking robot. This anthropomorphic (human-like) robot has systems for limb control, vision and conversation. WABOT-1 has external receptors, along with artificial eyes, ears and mouth. Its hands have tactile sensors and are able to grip and carry objects. WABOT-1 was constructed at Waseda University in Tokyo, Japan, in 1973.
