Robocup 2003. Humanoid competitors in the 2003 Robocup competition. At left is the Robo erectus robot from Singapore Polytechnic. The Robocup is an annual event in which teams of autonomous robots play football against each other. This requires a high level of artificial intelligence. Humanoid robots have to be able to walk and take a kick. The competition's aim is to develop a team of humanoid robots that can beat the best human side in the world by the year 2050. The cup has several leagues, including divisions for four- legged robots as well as humanoid (bipedal) robots such as this. The 2003 event, the 7th Robocup, was held in Padua, Italy.
