1950s telephone. Telephone handset that was popular in Britain in the 1950s. Telephones such as this were provided by the British General Post Office (GPO) from 1958. The user would rotate a perforated wheel (centre right) to dial the desired telephone number. The internal mechanism contained round telephone bells which rang to alert the user of an incoming call.
