The trading floor of the Tokyo Stock Exchange, the largest in terms of trading volume in the World. In 1987, Tokyo traded $1750 billion of shares and securities, more than either New York or London. The Tokyo exchange is the source of the Nikkei Stock Index, equivalent to the American Dow Jones and the British FT-SE indices. The three main exhanges are now linked such that trading may continue world-wide through 24 hours each day.
