Micro-wire bond on a silicon chip. Coloured Scanning Electron Micrograph (SEM) of the bonded end of a micro-wire on a silicon chip. A second micro-wire is seen at right. Micro-wires are often made of gold. They link the integrated circuit of a silicon chip to pins by which the chip is connected to its outside electronic environment (such as a computer circuit board).
