Semiconductor wafer. Macrophotograph of the surface of a semiconductor wafer which has been divided into blocks to make the integrated circuits ('chips') used in electronic devices. Integrated circuits are made by impregnating the wafer with impurities to create electronic components. The development of integrated circuits has greatly reduced the size of electronic components.
