False-colour scanning electron micrograph (SEM) of human nerve cells growing on the surface of an integrated circuit (silicon chip). The picture was taken in the course of research into biohybrid circuits - circuits of the future that will combine electronic & biological features. The micrograph demonstrates how much smaller are the organic circuits of the brain than man-made micro- electronic ones. Magnification: x60 at 35mm size.
