Nanomuscle motors. Hand holding miniature motors manufactured by NanoMuscle Inc., USA. These motors measure just 7.6 centimetres in length, but are a thousand times stronger than a human muscle. They utilise the "shape memory" property of nitinol, a nickel-titanium alloy, which can assume different shapes depending on the surrounding temperature. The temperatures can be of such a small range that an electric current from a battery is sufficient to cause an effect. Although similar motors are available, they are both larger and can cost over a hundred times as much as the Nanomuscle.
