Computerised clothing. Fashion model wears comput- erised "smart clothes". This Van outfit translates sign language into speech. A camera in the hat monitors the wearer's hand movements. Images are sent to a computer in the backpack which trans- lates the movements into speech and plays it from speakers in the backpack straps. A tiny microphone on the chest records people's speech; this is con- verted into Braille letters which the wearer feels against his chest. Such "smart clothes" can cont- inuously cater for a user's needs. Such clothes may soon be used widely. The outfit was a collabora- tion between researchers at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, USA, & fashion designers.
