OLPC XO-1 laptop. This is an inexpensive network-connected laptop (a netbook) built and distributed by the One Laptop per Child (OLPC) organisation. Based in the USA and founded in 2005, OLPC aims to give schoolchildren in developing countries access to knowledge by providing them with network-connected laptops. The aim is to reduce the price of the laptops as much as possible. The OLPC XO-1 laptop has a robust plastic casing and uses flash memory instead of a hard drive. It is also designed to use much less power than normal laptops.
