Internet traffic. Map depicting the volume of Internet traffic from various countries into and out from the USA. The data are for a single month, November 1994, and are coloured according to volume of information carried, measured in gigabytes (GB, or billion bytes). The colours are purple (up to 1 GB), red (1-10 GB), yellow (10- 150 GB) and white (over 150 GB). The data for this graph are the volumes of traffic into and out from the NSFNET 'backbone', the primary data transfer network in the USA. The total traffic depicted here is about 6,000 GB, but represents only a part of the world's total Internet and other electronic data traffic.
