Drug design. Artwork illustrating computer aided design (CAD) of drugs. Computers can improve drug design as they can model both the potential drug, and the receptor site it is intended to bind to. If the computer shows the drug will fit well in the site, then there is a possibility it will have the desired effect. Computers can also indicate the best method for administering the drug. The two types of pill shown here are the round white tablet which dissolves quickly, and the time- release capsule which contains the drug in a two- colour shell and releases it when the conditions are right. Most modern drugs have been aided by computer design.
