Molecular modelling. Computer artwork depicting the use of Computer-Aided Design (CAD) to model new molecules, such as new drugs. The molecule is seen coming out of a computer screen. CAD allows biochemists to design molecules which will fit the shape of certain receptor molecules on cells. By fitting well, the drug molecule will bind much more tightly to the receptor, so increasing the chance of it working successfully. CAD is an important tool for biochemists, allowing the molecule to be viewed from any angle. Changes to the detailed structure may be made rapidly, and the effect on the rest of the molecule calculated quickly.
