Cancer research screen saver. This is a piece of software which can be downloaded free from the internet. It tests millions of small molecules, such as the one seen here, to see if they bind to one of several target proteins (one seen at upper right). The proteins are all involved in promoting cancer growth. If a molecule is found which binds to a target protein, the details are sent back to the researchers using the internet. By harnessing the power of thousands of computers, researchers hope to uncover hundreds of drugs with anti- cancer potential. The project has been developed jointly by Oxford University, England, and the USA-based company United Devices.
