Computer-aided engine design. Man using a CAD/CAM (computer-aided design and manufacture) system to design an engine section. Computer-aided design methods produce detailed, three-dimensional models of objects. This allows designs to be tested and modified without building a physical prototype, saving time and costs. The data from the system can be fed into a mechanical production line, and the object can be automatically built to the designer's specification.
