Expression analysis. Computer analysis of a smile on a baby girl's face to be used in lie detection testing. Each point making up the computerised grid overlaid onto the baby's face shows whether that area of face has become lighter or darker due to the expression. Unlike adults, babies only make genuine expressions and so can be used to work out the slight differences between sincere and false expressions in humans. A high-speed lie detection computer program being used here detects these different micro-expressions, involuntary and often short-lived. It provides more accurate information to detect human lies than using a polygraph test.
