Virtual or artificial reality. Man playing Cyberspace, a sophisticated videogame designed by Autodesk Inc., USA. The background display, generated by sophisticated computer graphics, can be projected through a headset, giving the player a realistic 3-D image of the virtual room. Physical interaction is made using a spatial sensor mounted on the headset & by optical fibres woven into the black rubber dataglove, which transmits the player's real hand movements to the artificial environment. The sensor in the headset relays data to the computer on the player's position in space, on a x,y & z axes basis.
