Virtual reality in music: coloured lights trace the movements of Todd Machover's "dataglove", which he uses to control & mix music. Machover is a composer/computer-scientist working in the MIT Media Laboratory. When not composing or conducting electronic music, Machover plays an electronic 'cello with a device strapped to his right wrist that records his hand movements on a computer. The glove worn on his left hand is used to control and mix computer-generated music; sensors woven into the fabric are linked to a computer that interprets as music the physical gestures made by his hand.
