Virtual Lascaux Cave. Professor Benjamin Britton wears a virtual reality headset to visit the palaeolithic paintings in the caves of Lascaux, France. Screen displays show the coloured murals of large mammals on the cave walls painted by Cro- Magnon man 17,000 years ago. The user can navigate around the caves by turning their head while operating a spaceball tracking mechanism by hand. This computer reconstruction enables the animals to "come to life" in full-motion in caverns named: Chamber of Felines, Hall of Bulls, etc. The real Lascaux caves are no longer open to the public. Professor Britton is Director of this Lascaux Project at the University of Cincinnati, USA.
