Hemispherium. Simulation of the Eurofighter jet flying over the Cumbrian Lake District in the virtual reality Hemispherium. The plane is controlled by the "pilot" (lower left). This is the finest immersive virtual reality facility in the world. The screen is a 6 metre wide dome, mou- nted vertically, giving an authentic 180 degree field of view in both horizontal and vertical planes. Seven projectors provide real-time compu- ter graphics. This facility may also be used for building design and virtual tourism. The simulation's software was developed by British Aerospace. The Hemispherium was opened in December 1998 at Teesside University, England.
