Virtual reality. Disaster simulation display for a virtual reality system. This system, called Walkinside, was developed to allow people to practise and plan for disasters at sites like nuclear thermal power stations and oil platforms. This system was developed by the company VRContext, which is based in Belgium. Virtual reality (VR) is where a person interacts with a computer-generated reality, usually for training, leisure or educational purposes. The person wears goggles that depict the environment in which they are moving. This program was displayed as part of the annual exhibition and conference on VR held in Laval, France. Photographed in May 2003.
