Augmented reality surgery. Surgeon's view of a patient, with a computer model of the internal organs superimposed on the patient's body. This view shows the ribcage (yellow), the lungs (pink), a kidney (orange) and the liver (red). This augmented reality surgery can be combined with remotely controlled telesurgical instruments to allow the surgeon to operate from a distance. Pressure sensors in the instruments relay data to the controls to allow the surgeon to feel the progress of the operation. This system was developed at the European Institute of Telesurgery (EITS), in Strasbourg, France.
