MindSet brainwave-reading headset. Two people wearing a Mindset brain-computer interface (BCI) headset developed by Neurosky Inc., San Jose, USA. The headset contains a single electroencephalogram (EEG) sensor. The sensor makes contact with the wearer's forehead and detects electrical activity produced by the brain (as shown on the computer screen in the background). The signals are transmitted wirelessly to a computer where they are translated by software. The user can manipulate virtual objects on computer with 'mind control' alone. This headset is designed to be used with computer games, but may have applications as a medical or therapeutic tool. Photographed in 2008.
