DVD-burning mechanism. The cover has been removed to reveal the internal components of a DVD-burning device. DVDs (digital versatile discs) are a type of optical disc storage medium. Information is encoded and burned onto a plastic and metal disc using a laser to create pits and indentations in the disc. Lasers are also used to read the disc and recreate the information.
