Global positioning system. Hand holding the receiver of a global positioning system (GPS). The system uses a network of GPS satellites, each of which sends out signals about its position and the time. By using the signals, the receiver calculates and displays its latitude, longitude and altitude, as well as the local time. Photographed in Greenland, at 70 degrees north.
