Concorde cockpit. Instruments and controls in the front section of the cockpit of a Concorde. To the left and right of the cockpit are the Captain's and co-pilot's seats. The dials and controls in front of the seats are identical on each side. In addition to flight instruments found in other aircraft, Concorde also has mach meters and vertical speed indicators. In the centre of the panel are four sets of dials, one for each of the four engines. In between the two seats is the centre pedestal containing the engine throttles, navigation gear, radios and afterburner controls. Afterburners provide Concorde with the additional thrust required to reach supersonic speeds.
